The Playstation Hacking doc

Technical Docs News: The Playstation Hacking doc, Redux
3:00: As noted by his post on our message forums, Cless of Phantasian Productions has released a completely re-written PSX hacking document aptly titled, "The PlayStation hacking doc Version 2." Included at the top of the document is a brief message to those who followed along with the original guide where Cless points out the unfortunate instability of PSX2HD. Anyone who had previously given up hope for Playstation 1 hacking due to PSX2HD's poor performance may want to give it another shot using the new methods outlined in the document that do not utilize said tool... that is, of course, if they hadn't figured out an alternative by now.

Anyway, thanks to Cless for taking the time to remake his document and letting us know on the forums. You can snag a copy from our Translation/Hacking Documents section, from Cless' own website, or from right here.

ROMhacking.net opens it's Doors!

ROMhacking.net is open and Seasons Greetings
11:36: Nightcrawler writes in to let us know that ROMhacking.net is officially open to the public:

"It's time to bring the ROMhacking community back and take it to the next level! And that's exactly what the latest innovative site on the block is going to do! We've got your document and utility archive and have expanded it to become bigger and better than ever before! We've merged all the content found on 'The Whirlpool' to have a full translations database. A hacks database is on the way in just a few more weeks as well. All databases are also fully searchable in virtually every way possible.

In addition to holding archives, the site is a one stop news source for all your ROMhacking related news! This site is all about putting the power into the community's hands, so that means you can actually create the news update yourself! We plan to allow the public to also submit material to the database, edit the database, and more in the near future. There will be no waiting around for staff to do everything anymore!

More community features include a Help Wanted Ad section, getting started section aimed at even the newest person to the trade, a community database outlining who's active in the community and what they're doing, as well as continuous open development discussion on the messageboard. This site is run by a motivated staff that actually cares and listens to community feedback. Go voice your opinion and be listened to!

The ROMhacking community is not dead or dying as we've already proven in our community database of active contributers (and so far that only includes document, utility, and translation patch authors.) The people of the community are out there, and now we're going to unite them. You don't have to take my word for it, come on down to the site and see for yourself. The ROMhacking community is back!

NOTE: THERE IS A HACKS SECTION IN THE WORKS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS!"

You can check out the site right here ROMhacking.net. Thanks to Nightcrawler for the news and Merry Kwanzaa.

Dragoon X Omega II

Dragoon X Omega II

Sliver-X and Thaddeus have recently released DXOII, the long-anticipated Final Fantasy 1 hack.

Sliver-X writes, "After three and a half years, the Final Fantasy hack Dragoon X Omega II is basically finished. By far, this is the most extensive ROM hack for any system, ever; it's an entirely new game for the NES. All the graphics are new, as is the music, the levels, the dialogue; all but the bulk of thecore programming routines from FF are entirely redone. Storywise, this is a direct sequel to the Dragon Warrior hack Dragoon X Omega, so the settingis not in a fantasy world, but far in the future, where science has created things that to uswould seem like magic. If you've played the first, you'll be familiar with the much darkeraspects of the story and graphics than you would expect from an NES RPG.We hope that all this work has created a game worth a little of your time: We surely had a lotof fun creating it for you."The IPS patch is linked here. Alternatively, you can find the patch on our NES Hacks page. In addition, if you want to cop a quick visual feel for the game, check out the quick link to the screenshots page.

Thanks to Sliver-X, Thaddeus and the rest of the crew at Panicus for this release.
Goodbye forever.
